Back to IssueIn Memoriam: Jim Graham
June 14, 2025
Jim Graham, beloved longtime employee of the college, passed away on Feb. 23, 2025, in Sierra Vista, Arizona, at the age of 99.
Graham served Central College for 48 years. Over the course of his time at Central, he wore many hats — as teacher, coach, academic dean and even interim president. Graham was most proud of having helped launch, nurse and nourish study abroad programs in Europe, the U.K., Mexico and China.
His many achievements pale compared to the joy and gratitude friends, former colleagues, students and family members have expressed at having him in their lives. He devoured books his entire life and analyzed writing styles from exotic to mundane, even obituaries.
Jim lived his last years, encouraged by the saints at Faith Presbyterian, entertained by calls from far-flung children and lovingly sustained by his young wife. His legacy lives on with all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The Jim Graham Adventure Endowment for Off Campus Travel has been established in his honor. Visit central.edu/give to make a gift in honor of Jim.
