IN MEMORIAM
Gary Timmer, former vice president of development, alumnus and lifelong friend of the college, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, in Pella, Iowa.
Timmer graduated from Central College in 1955, where he majored in math. As a student, Timmer was involved in student government, played basketball, ran track and worked in the cafeteria. In 1970, Timmer returned to his alma mater as the vice president of development — a position he held until retiring in 1993.
Timmer was passionate about all things Central. One of his biggest joys was building relationships with students, alumni, colleagues and donors. Over the span of decades, while working for Central and in retirement, Timmer continued to invest in and support the institution he loved — leaving an incredible legacy that will not be forgotten.
The college celebrated his legacy during the 25th annual Scholarship Dinner in April 2025 and shared one of the last videos made with Timmer.
The Timmer Family Scholarship and Roslien-Timmer Kinesiology Endowment have been established in his honor. Visit central.edu/give to make a gift in honor of Timmer.
