Shirely Gess Weller passed away Oct. 6, 2025, in Pella, Iowa.
Born May 24, 1927, in Glendora, Michigan, Shirely attended Hope College, where she discovered her love of learning and met Kenneth J. Weller. They married in 1950 and began their life together in Holland, Michigan.
In 1969, the Weller family moved to Pella when Ken became president of Central. Shirely was a trusted and joyful presence on campus, welcoming students, faculty, alumni and guests into their home and supporting campus life with quiet strength and kindness.
Her faith guided every part of her life. At Second Reformed Church, she served as an elder, teacher and volunteer, and held leadership roles in the Reformed Church in America, supporting women in leadership and service.
Shirely received Central’s Fellowship of Service Award in 1981, and in 1990 the Central College Auxiliary dedicated a room in Maytag Student Center in her honor.
Married for more than 70 years, Shirely and Ken shared a life of faith, love and service. The Central community extends heartfelt sympathy to the Weller family and gratitude for her lasting impact.
